There’s a Dire need for Advanced Digital Industry in a Country like India. Rapid advancements in technology are shaping the face of digital dentistry. These needs should be fulfilled with state-of-the-art Devices and skilled Dentists. Thankfully, both these needs have easily been met with T-scan (by Tekscan) giving the world the best possible Device for solutions to cases with Craniomandibular Dysfunction and Dr.Prafulla Thumati who comes with years of Expertise and the best of skills required to operate such Scanners.
What is T-Scan?
T-Scan is an objective assessment tool used to evaluate the occlusion of a patient. Unlike articulating paper, which can only determine location, T-Scan can identify both force and timing, two of the most fundamental parameters for measuring occlusion.
What is Dental Occlusion? How does the T-Scan Help Clinicians?
Dental Occlusion simply means the Contact relationship of the upper and lower teeth during various activities of the mandible (mastication, swallowing and speech). T-Scan’s state-of-the-art, innovative, digital technology helps clinicians to identify premature contacts, high forces, and interrelationship of occlusal surfaces. This important data cannot be captured by traditional, analog occlusal methods, like articulating paper.
Whether eliminating destructive forces on a new restoration, or performing an occlusal analysis and adjustment procedure, T-Scan helps you balance your patients’ occlusions and reduce costly repeat visits and remakes.
By incorporating another valuable piece of digital technology into your practice, clinicians will enhance patient education and provide a more confident, proactive approach to patient care in the following ways:
- Improve Efficiency– Save time and money by reducing repeat visits
- Improve Outcomes– Objective data enables more effective treatments and results
- Data Integration– Integrate with digital impressions and biometric data
- Patient Education – Easy to understand, visual data increases patient acceptance
- Digital Workflow– Speed up your workflow by going digital, and never leave your patient
- Differentiate Yourself– Broaden your treatment capabilities and grow your patient base
What is DTR Therapy?
Disclusion Time Reduction (DTR) Therapy is a specialized dental treatment procedure that requires the use of T-Scan in tandem with an EMG link to evaluate occlusal forces in relation to muscle activity.
The diagnostic phase of DTR uses T-Scan’s force and timing measurement data to identify occlusal contacts that may be overly engaging during excursive movements (a problem that can lead to hyperactive muscles and TMD symptoms). The clinician will evaluate the time it takes for the posterior teeth to disengage during excursive movements and correlate it to muscle activity in real time. The treatment phase of DTR Therapy requires computer-guided adjustments with a goal to reduce excessive posterior periodontal ligament compressions by reducing the disclusion time (per unit in time) to under 0.5 seconds. The desired result is to have the muscles return to baseline activity, reducing lactic acid production and myalgic pain.
How does the T-Scan help with the therapy?
DTR Therapy uses T-Scan digital occlusal analysis data to measure the impact of excursive movements on the occlusal plane.
Using T-Scan to perform DTR Therapy allows the clinician to:
- Identify overly engaged contacts during excursive movements
- Evaluate how muscles are firing during bite cycles
- Verify occlusal contacts that could be contributing to TMD symptoms
- Use data to guide adjustment procedures
- Objectively analyze the timing of disclusion
