Must know details on human body
Human body is amazing. It’s a beautiful system but less known to all. Here are some must know facts on human body – the great machine.
The Organ System
Different organs work together to perform a common function. Organ system is an integrated unit. Groups of organ systems work together to make complete, functional organisms, like us! Here is a brief review on few organ systems of the body.
Skeletal system
Basic framework of the body is given by the skeletal system. It provides for the structure, protection, and movement functions of human body. Our body consists of 206 bones in which ribs constitute if 24 in number, bones in skull and face region sums up to 22 and 14 respectively and 7 bones in neck. There are 33 bones in vertical column and 30 bones in our hand. So this is something about the bones of our body.
Respiratory System
The respiratory system allows us to take in oxygen and expire carbon dioxide in a process we call breathing. Every tissue within the body requires oxygen to function and we breathe all the time, all day and our heart functions all the time but do you know how many times we breathe in a minute!? Its 16-20 times per minute.
Circulatory system
Body-wide network of blood, blood vessels, and lymph are parts of circulatory system. It is powered by the heart and forms the body’s distribution system to organs with oxygen, hormones and essential nutrients that help it function properly. Heart pumps the blood to various parts of body. Our heart beats 70-72 times per minute and pulse is 70-72 times per minute. The normal blood pressure is 120/80 of Hg. The blood carries so many cells, nutrients and respiratory gases. The Red Blood Cells(RBC’s) have a life span of 120 days, White Blood Cells(WBC’s) have a life span of 10-15 days, platelets in our body have a life span of 5-9 days.
Nervous system
The nervous system helps us to perceive, comprehend, and respond to the environment around us. It consists of brain, spinal cord and the nerves. Nerves carry the signal from brain to various organs and parts and vice- versa. We have nerves running all around our body in them 12 pairs of cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nerves which carry the signals for various sensations and motor activities.
Urinary system
The urinary system helps eliminate a waste product called urea from the body, which is produced when certain foods are broken down. The whole system includes two kidneys, two ureters, the bladder, two sphincter muscles and the urethra. Urine produced by the kidneys travels down the ureters to the bladder, and exits the body through the urethra.
The skin, or integumentary system
Skin is the body’s largest organ. It protects us from the outside world, and is our first defense against bacteria, viruses and other pathogens. Our skin also helps regulate body temperature and eliminate waste through perspiration. In addition to skin, the integumentary system includes hair and nails.
Final Note
Human body is a wonderful creation. The complex system and its function is really a well-designed creation in nature. This article provided you an overview of human body, while there are a lot more interesting things about its anatomy, physiology and pathological aspect as well.
