WHAT CAUSES YELLOWNESS OF TEETH?
The yellowness of teeth hasn’t just been associated with lowering your self-confidence and appearance of your smile but it also is associated with degrading and hampering the well-being of someone’s mouth or/and a signal for an underlying dental complication.
The yellowness of teeth could be due to multiple reasons such as the following-
Dental Fluorosis– When the intake of fluoride before the age of 8 is more than the accepted value, it causes a defect in one’s teeth causing fluorescent spots, weakened teeth, transparent teeth and yellowness of teeth in Mild Fluorosis or Brown and defected teeth in Severe Fluorosis.
Tooth grinding– Tooth clenching or grinding is an unconscious movement disorder also called Bruxism which leads to enamel wearing off and hence resulting in yellowness of teeth.
Tetracycline Antibiotics– The usage of Tetracycline Antibiotics; which is primarily used for a bacterial infection or treating pneumonia, before the age of 8 leads to permanently stained teeth. Else if a mother uses these antibiotics during her second trimester the baby would end up with permanently stained teeth too.
Smoking– Smoking and usage of other tobacco products lead to several periodontal infections too. It leads to the weakening of gums as well and ultimately loss of tooth. Due to wear and tear of gums one gets prone to having yellow teeth
Coffee, Tea, Wine and Soda– Consuming these beverages leads to gradual staining and yellowing of teeth
Genetics– Genetics could very well play a role in being a reason for yellowish teeth. If your parents have yellow teeth then it is very likely that you’ll have yellow teeth too
Consuming Sugar– The acidic nature of this table condiment leads to the erosion of your enamel and teeth which leads to yellowness.
