Guardians of the Baby Tooth Kingdom- Crowns in Child Dental Care

Certificate of participation with 1 CME is available

Posterior crowns in pediatric dentistry are essential for restoring primary molars that have been extensively damaged by caries or following pulp therapy. These crowns, particularly stainless steel crowns (SSCs), are favored for their durability, ease of placement, and cost-effectiveness. SSCs provide full coverage protection, helping maintain tooth structure and function until natural exfoliation. In recent years, esthetic alternatives like zirconia crowns have gained popularity among parents seeking more natural-looking restorations, though they require more precise technique and are generally more expensive.

Webinar deals about the SSC, Bioflx, Zirconia crowns.

Highlights about the step by step  preparation of teeth for each crown.

In pediatric dentistry, tooth preparation varies significantly among SSC, Bioflx, and Zirconia crowns. Stainless Steel Crowns (SSC) require minimal tooth reduction—primarily occlusal and proximal—to allow passive crown fit. Bioflx crowns, being flexible and esthetic, need slightly more reduction than SSCs, especially interproximally, to accommodate their bulk and ensure retention. Zirconia crowns demand the most precise preparation: uniform circumferential reduction (1–2 mm), subgingival margins, and a smooth, rounded finish to prevent crown fracture and ensure passive seating. Unlike SSCs, zirconia crowns cannot be crimped, so accurate tooth contouring is critical for retention and esthetics
