Corticobasal Implants are the need of the hour especially in severely resorbed ridges. Patient doesn’t have to undergo a second surgical procedure for obtaining a graft. Pain from second surgery can be avoided. Time taken to stabilize this grafted site can be avoided using corticobasal implants. These implants when placed in cortical bone will result in immediate loading and function. Cortical bone is highly mineralised and wont resorb in the life time and hence implants placed in this region will remain stable. These implants have been used for nerve by pass in an atrophic mandible especially when the inferior alveolar canal is superiorly placed enabling early loading and function. Challenges faced using cementable restoration can be avoided using compressible multi unit implants (CMU) where prosthetic retrievability becomes easier using screw retained restorations.
