Many diseases can manifest signs and symptoms in oral cavity and can help in diagnosis. Diseases like diabetes have its affects on oral health, mainly the gums or the periodontal structures. Few medicines that are given to treat health conditions also may affect the oral health. For instance, few medicines prescribed for hypertension or elevated BP can lead to enlargement or swelling of gums. There are medicines that can lead to reduced salivary flow.
So, there are many ways by which oral health is connected to overall health. Therefore it is said oral health is window to overall health. Maintaining good oral health is vital for good overall health.
