Poor Oral Hygiene & Heart Problems

How are Heart Problems related to Poor Oral Hygiene

Studies suggest cardiovascular diseases could start due to poor oral hygiene. Even the simplest form of hygiene practices: teeth brushing, is taken lightly by most populations. One might ask, how is oral hygiene possibly related to heart diseases? Read this article till the end to learn some alarming facts about the relation of oral hygiene, oral health, and the human heart.

History/ Background:

Studies show that the connection between poor oral health and overall health extends beyond cardiovascular disease. Periodontal disease (primarily if caused by infection with the bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis) has been related to rheumatoid arthritis studies. A 2018 study also discovered a correlation between this bacterium and the risk of pancreatic cancer.

The takeaway:

A healthy mouth and a regimen to keep it that way will help you keep your teeth, whether the connection is direct, indirect, or coincidental. That alone should motivate you to make oral health a top priority. Perhaps it will turn out to have other advantages, but most of this is still up in the air.

How to avoid these risks?

Keep an eye out for further research into the correlation between oral and overall health. So, for now, keep brushing with fluoride toothpaste, flossing, and seeing your dentist regularly.

Final Note:

Yes, it’s hard to believe that poor oral hygiene can be the cause of severe heart diseases. Not only heart, oral hygiene and dental health are root cause for several other diseases. Oral health is overall health. Daily oral hygiene practices will help you to live a forever healthy life. Visit to your dentist, once in every 6 months helps you to diagnose any hidden dental problem.
