Dr.J.Selvakumar is a Periodontist and implantologist He has been member of various organizations and past CDH chairman of ISP, CEA convener of IDA,past CC member, CDE convener & assistant editor of JIDAT of IDA Tamilnadu & currently Past President of Indian Dental Association (Madras Branch)  and past Vice president of ISDR . He has completed his B.D.S Course in 1994 and MDS (Periodontics) in 2003 from MEENAKSHI AMMAL DENTAL COLLEGE and had done Post graduate diploma in clinical research in 2006. He has done fellowship in implantology in 2004,fellowship in laser in 2009& fellowship in orofacial pain,TMJ disorders and sleep apnoea from Rutgers university (U.S.A) and fellowship in Photodynamic theraphy & Photobiomodulation from AALT. He has been awarded fellowship by Indian society of Dental research in 2013.He has presented more than 150 scientific papers in state and national conferences and to his credit and has also chaired several scientific sessions. He has more than 50 publications and had written chapters in reputed Perio text books. He was key opinon leader for various pharma,implant and laser companies. He was the reviewer for various reputed journals like IJDR,JISP,JIDAM,WJPR &WJASR etc He has conducted various national and state level conferences in chennai.He has won various awards like BEST IDA LOCAL branch PRESIDENT at STATE and NATIONAL  level,  and also young researcher award from ISDR,Best academician award & BEST young Periodontal researcher award.

His area of interest lies in periomedicine (Periodontal disease and its relation to systemic disease),Peri-implantitis and Lasers in periodontal treatment. Has been conducting various surveys & guiding students in various research activities. His main interest is educating the general practitioners about  various treatment modalities available in periodontics and train them to do it. And career counselling programme for young periodontist.

He's has successful clinical practise in KUMARAN DENTAL CLINIC, Ashoknagar,chennai for past 30yrs and consultant periodontist for various hospitals in chennai.

He has 25yrs of academic experience and worked as Professor and HOD at various dental colleges
