Easily cure those black, brown or light brown patches
What is Gum Pigmentation?

In this era where one’s appearance carries so much importance, that perfect smile saves the day. Having gum-pigmentation commonly known as Gingival Hyperpigmentation, which is usually characterised by deep-purplish pigmentation or often even as irregularly shaped black, brown or light brown patches ( in easier terms the excess accumulation of melanin in gums) ruins the look of that perfect smile. When perfect teeth and beautiful gums sit in harmony that contributes to a flawless smile.

What causes Gum Pigmentation?

Usually, Gum Pigmentation does not pose any health hazards but is often due to other conditions’ could be due to:

Smoking
 Certain Medications
Prolonged use of Tobacco
Majorly due to excessive accumulation of Melanin in your gums. Certain racial ethnicities are more prone to having Gum depigmentation than others.
Genetic Aspects
Certain Systemic Conditions [For example – Antimalarial therapy, Haemangioma etc.]
How can one get rid of Gum Pigmentation?

Gum Pigmentation can be treated by a process which is referred to as Gum Bleaching. Although there are several treatments available such as Surgical methods or Chemical treatments.

Within Surgical methods we have a wide variety of options such as:

Lasers
Bur abrasion method
Scalpel surgical technique
Electro-Surgery
Cryosurgery
Radiosurgery
Out of which lasers are considered to be the best option of the lot. A laser treatment works best in the process of gum depigmentation for the following reasons:

Less Invasive treatment
Absolutely no need for periodontal dressing
No haemorrhage
The healing period is shorter
Very less or almost no pain as compared to other surgical treatments
Post-op care after a laser treatment on the gums

After a surgical treatment it becomes of the utmost importance to do what’s right. Certain practices need to be incorporated in your routine post-surgery. Take the prescribed medications. Do not assume that there’s no care to be taken post laser treatment. As your dentist will suggest, after care is to be taken very seriously. Lasers too are surgical procedures and these procedures also take some time to heal. Avoid chewing from the areas where the laser has been used. For some time, you might have a slight discomfort post treatment. Your dentist will suggest you to stop chewing from the places where the lasers were used. For a few days post-op, ideal option is always the intake of light foods and drinks. Ask your dentist for proper instructions regarding the measures to be taken while flossing and brushing. Don’t compromise on the oral hygiene. A soft bristle toothbrush will help save you from damaging the gums.

 Final Note

An individual’s major confidence booster is the perfect smile. Don’t let anything take that away! Gum Pigmentation is a common dental issue which can definitely be resolved. If you identify this issue you must talk to your dentist about the available options and what’s better than a painless, less invasive treatment such as Laser!
