Optimizing Mechanical Plaque Control – Evidence Based Approach for Clinical Practice

OBJECTIVE:  To understand the current trends in mechanical plaque control based on recent evidences, thereby implement them in clinical practice. 

Rationale 

Maintenance of periodontal health includes a lifelong supportive care consisting of daily removal of the microbial plaque by the patient, supplemented by professional care in an individually designed programme. Mechanical supragingival plaque control by self care is of utmost importance. The goal is to create a positive attitude by information and motivation to give the patient knowledge and confidence. The patient should be advised to use appropriate aids and technique.
