Prosthetic Rehabilitation of intra-oral maxillary defect

Abstract 

The most challenging and appreciated area in the field of Prosthodontics is the rehabilitation of maxillary defects. Tumors of the head and neck ,trauma and surhery are the most common causes for acquired maxillofacial defects. Surgical consequences predispose the patient to hypernasal speech, fluid leakage into nasal cavity, impaired masticatory function, and cosmetic deformity. The Prosthodontists play a significant role in the intervention and improve the quality of life of such patients. The participants will learn to make an obturator for intra-oral maxillary defect. 

OBJECTIVE: To develop knowledge on etiology for maxillary intra-oral defect, classify the nature and extent of defect and learn the clinical procedures like impression making, fabrication of denture base and bulb part of obturator , designing of the final prosthesis and maintenance of the prosthesis. Also learn the various type of materials for different type of maxillary defect.
