The cause of Temporomandibular joint Disorders cannot be pinned to a single one. Multiple reasons have been associated with TMDs in the past like malocclusion , trauma , stress , genes, female gender. But current understating through the lense of biopsychosocial model explains the role of these factors only as a predisposing one.
Even while managing these set of conditions one needs to keep in mind the inadvertent participation of each of these components and define management goals according to individual patient socioeconomic condition.
