The world is ‘’GRAYING’’ fast! About 10% of the population is more than 60 years old & will be 22% by 2050.Due to age related physical, physiological, psychosocial & orofacial problems of the Geriatric patients, knowledge of Geriatric Medicine & Dentistry is needed in order to provide optimum dental treatment.
General frailty & Oral frailty in particular is gaining importance in Geriatric healthcare.
The older adults - especially frail and dependent - report with complex medical and dental issues. Oral health forms an important part of general health and directly impacts quality of life of the older adults. Majority of oral conditions are preventable or treatable in the older adults, however, they do not receive regular dental care. An interdisciplinary approach & holistic care can “add life to their years”.
