Periodontal diseases are among the most common oral conditions encountered in general dental practice, yet early recognition, accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment planning, and timely specialist referral remain challenging in routine clinical practice. “Think Perio! A General Dentist’s Guide to Periodontal Diagnosis, Treatment Planning & Referral” is designed to provide general dentists with a practical, clinically oriented approach to periodontal decision-making. The webinar will focus on identifying periodontal risk factors and clinical signs that should prompt a comprehensive periodontal assessment, performing an appropriate chairside periodontal examination, differentiating gingival health, gingivitis, periodontitis, and other periodontal conditions, and formulating an accurate diagnosis. Emphasis will be placed on translating the diagnosis into an individualized treatment plan, understanding the scope of periodontal management within general practice, recognizing cases that require closer monitoring or multidisciplinary care, and identifying clinical red flags that warrant referral to a periodontist. Through practical clinical scenarios and case-based discussions, participants will learn to recognize when to manage, monitor, or refer a patient. The webinar aims to strengthen the confidence and clinical judgment of general dentists in managing periodontal conditions and establishing timely collaboration with periodontists, ultimately contributing to earlier intervention, improved treatment outcomes, and better long-term periodontal and overall oral health.
Highlights:
This webinar will provide general dentists with a practical framework for early periodontal disease recognition, systematic periodontal examination, accurate diagnosis, evidence-based treatment planning, identification of periodontal red flags, and timely specialist referral. Participants will gain confidence in distinguishing cases that can be effectively managed in general practice from those requiring periodontal intervention, learn when and how to reassess treatment outcomes, understand the importance of risk-factor assessment and maintenance, and improve communication and referral pathways with periodontists. Case-based clinical discussions and “Treat, Monitor or Refer?” scenarios will help participants apply periodontal decision-making directly to everyday dental practice.
